DLSU Demolished UP

Abegail Maraño had 18 points including 2 blocks to lead the powerhouse Dela Salle University Lady Spikers beat the hard fighting University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in the 2nd match up on the ongoing UAAP Season 73 Women's Volleyball Tournament Wednesday clash with a superb 25-17, 25-12, 25-13 triumph.

DLSU frontliner Jacq "the Jacq-hammer"Alarca made seven straight service aces in the 2nd set that nailed the Lady Maroons in only 4 points, making it 15-4. From there, the disoriented UP managed to fight back with three straight points before the "Sweet Face Assassin", Stephanie Mercado took control of the Lady Spikers' rally to seal the set.

Bench Ace Alexa Tan made three straight service Aces late in the 3rd set that saw UP struggle for more as the DLSU rookies throttled the Lady Maroons' first six.

Araneta and Ramos forefront the UP attacks and defensive stuff but got little support from the others.

Why Take Drugs if You Can Play Volleyball?

It has been recorded that in the Philippines, drug abuse is a common, topnotch social problem. It s a disease with no cure. It s sad to know that its very victims are the youth, the said hope of the fatherland stated by the Filipinos national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

Imagine, when a young girl, 14 years of age, takes on drugs? What will be the future of her? There will be nothing left. Her life will become miserable, pathetic and violent. Because, as we know, metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and marijuana- the main predators in the Philippines- can cause psychotic disorders which will eventually lead to self-destruction.

Not only the victim will be harmed, but the people around her, the friends, the family who care.
The family, as the foundation of the society has the great influence to the youth. Let us encourage them to fight against it, to shun away from drug abuse.

Why take on drugs when you can play volleyball? Let us remind them.

Sports is a worthwhile activity- like volleyball. It enhances ourselves, physically and mentally. It swings us away from loneliness and depression which are the common denominators of drug abuse. Encourage our youth to engage in volleyball. They can meet new friends, build confidence and can make a difference for a brighter future- away from the annihilation of the illegal drugs!

Let us unite to save our youth. Stop drug abuse. Play volleyball!

2010 UAAP WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON 72 HARDCOURT BEAUTIES

The 2010 UAAP Season 72 Women s Volleyball is over. University Sto. Tomas Tigresses has captured the crown. My favorite team, De La Salle University Lady Spikers placed 2nd. It s an unfortunate event, at least for me and all DLSU fans, but I still salute them for giving us a great season. No bitter times, animo!
Now, the season is over, may I remind you again... And again, I have this urge to list the names of the players that- in my own eyes and mind- made an impact.
